Software Developer and Architect

Kory Becker

Hi, I’m Kory.

First, thank you for taking the time to stop by and read some of my articles. It brings me a great sense of satisfaction to help, even in the slightest, other motivated developers learn more about technology.

I’ve written a lot of software over the years. I’ve even written a book. I consider myself a software developer, an architect, an entrepreneur, and a hacker. I’ve worked with a broad range of technologies for many different clients. My skills include developing web applications, web services, mobile apps, and desktop software, just to scratch the surface. I also write software almost every day. I consider it both a profession and a hobby. Actually, it could even be considered a curse and a blessing!

Early in my career, I’ve had some successes with the development of an occasional popular product. Just to list off some names, I’ve had software included in PC Magazine (October 2002 Editors Choice Award), PC World (May 2006), USA Today (September 2003), Kim Komando Radio Show (August 2006), Consumer Reports (June 2013), Apple iTunes (January 2011), Google Chrome Web Store (January 2013), Amazon Alexa (January 2017), Grace Hopper Conference (Self-Programming Artificial Intelligence, September 2018).

Here’s an interesting bit of background. One of my products was a software tool, which in 2002, earned a PC Magazine Editors’ Choice Award. This was one of my first products that included artificial intelligence technology in a commercial software product. The particular piece used Markov chains to identify malware file-names in the Windows system folder (at that time, malware usually took on randomly arranged letters for the file-names). The Markov chain was trained to recognize likely combinations of valid letters that file-names typically hold. Any file-name that strayed too far from the pattern was identified as malware. This worked surprisingly well!

In addition to my professional work, I’m also an artificial intelligence and machine learning enthusiast. In fact, AI was one of the fundamental interests that drove me into computer science many years ago. OK, well that, and I wanted to write games. Considering the amazing possibilities that computers could one day achieve, I knew that I wanted to spend the core of my time involved with it.

I’ve since been learning all I can about artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. From time to time, I’ll create research projects around these topics and post write-ups about the technology to share with others. I find that writing articles about a complex topic helps to solidify that learning.

So, thanks for stopping by. If you’re interested in any of my work, please explore the blog and feel free to get in touch. You can find me on any of the social links listed below, or simply use the contact form at the top of the page.

I welcome any comments, thoughts, or suggestions.

Thanks for reading.
